Client Tesco Stores Limited and Spenhill Developments Limited Main Contractor S Dudley & Sons Limited Value £5,225,000 Project Duration 36 Weeks Gleave Partnership Role Quantity Surveyor This project comprised the re-development of the existing Listed Post Office building in Fleet Street, Torquay. The project consisted of a Metro format store with a nett sales floor area of 10,096 ft2. The Metro store was set over two floors with the sales floor, bulk storage, chillers at ground floor and back of house office and plant at first floor. The apartments comprised 4 studios, 6 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units, and were set over the first to third floors and occupied the vacant office space above the post office. The works comprised the part demolition of the existing sorting office and reduce level dig to achieve the required headroom within the store. The cliff face to the rear of the site required rock stabilisation. The store superstructure works comprised a traditional steel frame with Ranilla cladding and Trocal roofing. Internal finishes to the retail store were to Tesco's design standards. The apartments were completed to a high standard with laminate flooring to circulation areas and ceramic flooring to bathrooms. Landlord's areas were carpeted. All kitchens were provided with cookers, hobs, extractor fans and washing machines. Bathrooms comprised bath with shower over, WC and sinks.
