Quantity Surveyor – Primary Location: Gleave Partnership, Northwich, Cheshire

Gleave are seeking to recruit an ambitious, qualified, and high-calibre Quantity Surveyor with 2-5 years’ post graduate experience to strengthen our exciting and dynamic commercial team in Cheshire. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of construction projects ranging from £1M to £170M across the automated logistics, data centres, residential and education sectors. You’ll be working on a day-to-day basis with leading architects and engineers to ensure that the client and contractor deliver the best value for money – advising all parties on the best solutions from a qualitative and commercial perspective.

We’re looking for surveyors possessing a keen interest in advancing technologies and a good knowledge of construction, whether from a Main Contracting or PQS background to build close, collaborative relationships with our clients and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The individual will be an integral part of a team that is accountable for the commercial and contractual performance of a project.
  • To support business objectives of delivering value for money in all circumstances.
  • To carry out assigned duties efficiently and in accordance with processes and procedures.
  • Individually or as part of a team operate processes for the selection, appointment and management of contractors.
  • Cost Planning including:
    • Preparation of feasibility cost budgets and appraisals.
    • Preparation of elemental cost plans.
    • Value engineering studies.
  • Procurement including:
    • Preparing and issuing tender documents.
    • Running a competitive tender process including managing queries from tendering contractors.
    • Managing and contributing to structured and documented tender evaluations.
    • Preparation of Contract Recommendation Reports.
    • Preparation of contract documents.
    • Complaint tenders.
  • Post Contract Quantity Surveying including:
    • Scrutinising and verifying applications for interim payments.
    • Preparing certificates.
    • Managing change control in accordance with contracts.
    • Producing cost reports and cost forecasting.
    • Assisting Project Managers.
    • Attending progress meetings.
  • Promote commercial awareness throughout project.
  • Advising and liaising with internal project and cost control team.

Candidate Requirements:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive proactive approach to the role, and will be committed to delivering customer service excellence, with good commercial results.

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar technical discipline.
  • Working towards MRICS or membership of other relevant professional body.
  • Ability to successfully manage complex projects in a proactive and diligent manner.
  • Strong Feasibility and cost planning experience.
  • Experience of providing tender documentation and post contract services.
  • Experience in Commercial, Industrial and/or Infrastructure preferable.
  • Client facing, ensuring a high standard of technical delivery.
  • Able to build long-term relationships.
  • Demonstrate working with teams and managing projects by prioritising workloads and delivering deadlines.
  • Flexible Travel throughout the UK and occasional travel to the EU.
