Awarded to the Gleave Partnership as part of its ongoing partnership with Santon Group Developments Limited and Tesco, this store was opened two weeks earlier than originally planned. The site required extensive cut and fill requiring a 100 meter long contiguous piled wall to support the adjacent highway. The store uses the latest CHP technology as well as photo-voltaic and solar water heating panels. A new intiative was also introduced in the scheme insofar as the toilets and staff facilities were constructed off site as "pods" and installed in one day.
The store is symathetic to it's surrounding with sustainable timber cladding and rubble walling brickwork.

This project comprised the demolition of a Primary School and the construction of a new 30,000 ft2 retail food store with at grade car parking.
This project was particulary complex due the extensive remodeling of North Street from a one way two lane road to a two way three lane highway, whilst keeting the traffic flowing at all times.. This required close liaison with the Contractor, Client, design team and highway authorities to ensure the project could be procured within the tight timescales and budget.
The Planning Authority insisted on utilizing local materials in the elevations such as flint and also to reflect the local history of rope making with the commisioning of the 'Rope Pulling man' statue by a local sculpturer.
The project could only begin after the successful handover to the local Education Authority of the offsite replacement Primary School.
